Chapter 4 Kaiyomai

Instead of a hard dirt floor, it was a wooden board surface, and he didn't seem to be on the ground. Confirming this fact, Zhou Fan maintained his relative calm and did not rashly walk amongst the thick fog, but instead raised his head to look upwards. The starry sky could give direction. Only the pupils of Zhou Fan's eyes suddenly contracted, and high in the gray sky hung a huge blood-colored sphere with dense lead-gray pits on its surface. The blood-colored sphere that occupied half of the sky's view seemed like it would fall down at any time, giving Zhou Fan a sense of suffocation. Zhou Fan let out a deep breath as he stared at the blood-colored sphere until his neck became sore, and only when the sphere did not show any signs of falling did he vaguely breathe a sigh of relief. If the sphere really fell like a comet, he would have nowhere to escape. Suddenly. The gray mist that had been drifting headed upwards, the pang swept to form a tornado and was sucked within the blood sphere. Zhou Fan could only watch in dismay, everything around him was just too bizarre and he couldn't do anything about it. The time it took for the gray mist to be sucked in was very short, in just a few seconds, the blood-colored sphere stopped absorbing the gray mist. The gray fog still floated around him, but it had become thin, and Zhou Fan s vision suddenly cleared up, and he raised his eyes and looked around before realizing that he was standing on ...... a ship? He wasn't quite sure if it was a ship, as there was nothing on this large wooden ship. There was no canvas, no mast, no ship's maneuvering room, just a vast, empty deck with a half-man-high wooden railing around the edge. Beyond that, there was nothing empty, and as his eyes looked further out, he saw gray water. The wooden boat was surrounded by gray water, calm and waveless gray water, gray water like gray mist. In order to see more clearly, Zhou Fan came to the edge of the railing and looked towards the bottom. The gray water was as smooth as a mirror, a shudder crawled along his spine all over Zhou Fan's body, and sweat like slurry seeped out from his back, wetting his singlet. Below it, like a mirrored river of gray, a morose white skeleton was reflected. Zhou Fan straightened up from the bed, his head covered in sweat as he realized that he had woken up. Only his face was still frighteningly white, and the pupils of his eyes were contracting. Zhou Fan patted his face and felt all the skin and flesh on his face before he began to slowly calm his breathing, but his face was a little green. It wasn't that he hadn't seen a dead man's skull before, he would feel fear because the last skull he saw, he felt was his own head. He looked at the familiar layout of the room outside the tent and shook his head, this was just a more realistic dream. Daydreaming though, why had he had such a dream? He hadn't seen anything about a ship lately. There was a shallow green light leaking in from the roof skylight, and there was the sound of a rooster crowing outside. It was already dawn. Not long after, footsteps sounded outside the room. It was Zhou Fan's mother, Gui Feng, who walked in, calling out, "Ah Fan, get up quickly, we need to go over early for the hair binding ceremony in the village." Zhou Fan responded and hurriedly got out of bed. After that and under Gui Feng's arrangement, Zhou Fan went to freshen up, ate breakfast, and put on the new clothes Gui Feng handed him. When he said new clothes, it was actually relative to the one he wore before, and this new clothes also had several inconspicuous patches. After Zhou Fan put on the new clothes, Zhou Yi Mu and Gui Feng were obviously ready as well. Zhou Yi Mu looked at Zhou Fan, who was already dressed up, and just nodded slightly and said, "Let's go." The three of them went out together, casually closing the door behind them and not locking it. After all, the family was originally poor, there was nothing of value that could be stolen. The early morning wind was cool and refreshing, this was the first time Zhou Fan had ever left the Zhou family's mud house when he crossed over, he followed Mr. and Mrs. Zhou Yimu while curiously gazing at everything around him, the simple and primitive rugged environment. The people inside the village were also heading in the same direction, apparently all coming to participate in the hair binding ceremony. On the way, there were villagers who greeted the three of Zhou Yi Mu, and it was usually Zhou Yi Mu who made a noise to deal with them. Occasionally a teenager about Zhou Fan's age called out to Zhou Fan, Zhou Fan could only smile and respond, he didn't know these people's names and couldn't talk much. After walking for a short while, Zhou Fan stopped their steps. This was a wide piece of flat land in the center of the village, and there were no common mud houses around, only a round altar made of gray stone. The round altar was not large, only thirty to forty square meters in amplitude, below the round altar had already gathered a dense crowd of people, these were all the people of Sanqiu Village. Zhou Fan didn't know how big Sanqiu Village was, but there were almost more than a thousand people here, Zhou Fan just stood on one side, Zhou Yi Mu and Gui Feng were talking to people, talking about trivial things. Zhou Fan didn't listen carefully, suddenly someone tapped his shoulder. Zhou Fan turned his head to look, standing in front of him was a skinny and bony teenager, when he smiled, the bones of his face stood out. Zhou Fan erupted, it was the first time he had seen someone so skinny. This teenager laughed, "Fan, you're doing well, I've always wanted to visit you, but Aunt Gui Feng wouldn't let me." Gui Feng turned over, she looked at Zhou Fan who had a confused face, she knew that her son had forgotten about this teenager, she quickly said, "Ah Fan, this is Zhang Quan Fu, you usually call him Skinny Monkey, have you forgotten?" Zhou Fan helplessly said, "Thin Monkey, I'm sorry, I forgot about you." Skinny Monkey froze for a moment and said, "Aunt Gui Feng, why did Fan forget me?" Gui Feng shook her head and said, "He hurt his head and doesn't remember a lot of things from before." The skinny monkey came to a realization, he rubbed the back of his head and smiled, "So that's how it is, that's fine, I'll just tell Ah Fan slowly, Ah Fan let's go to the side and play, there's no point in you following your parents." Gui Feng waved her hand and said, "Go, but today you both have to bind your hair, you can't go too far away, you'll have to come back later." Before Zhou Fan could agree, he was dragged by the thin monkey and ran, quickly moving away from Zhou Yi Mu and the others. The skinny monkey pulled Zhou Fan to a remote corner before letting go of his hand, he spun around and looked at Zhou Fan and said, "Ah Fan, have you really lost your memory? You can't be afraid that Uncle Yimu will scold you, so you pretended to forget everything, right?" Zhou Fan shook his head and said, "Thin Monkey, I really have forgotten everything, I don't even remember what our country is called?" Zhou Fan was deliberately prying, he didn't know anything about this era, he had scruples about the two of them, Zhou Yimu and Gui Feng, but he didn't have too many scruples about the teenager in front of him called Skinny Monkey, after all, Skinny Monkey's age, he shouldn't have any heart.
