Chapter XII - The first pot of gold

Continuously being rejected by three tailor stores that seemed to be of some class, Lucien was very depressed, even though he had taken the black yarn in from the beginning, those tailors still refused to believe it, unwilling to identify what kind of yarn it belonged to, and were filled with deep wariness towards strangers like Lucien. This market area was huge, adding up more than ten streets horizontally and vertically, with people coming and going, and seeing dwarves, elves and other foreign races from time to time, it was very prosperous, so Lucien quickly found an elegant and clean tailor store at the end of another street. Guarding behind the counter was a fifteen or sixteen year old blonde boy with a shy and youthful smile, "Master is in the back making clothes, my name is Banister, what do you need, guest?" "Can you look at this black veil for me?" Lucien learned his lesson and asked in a roundabout way, taking out the black veil. Banister thought that Lucien was going to pick a similar black veil and took it without any doubts, rubbing it with his fingers and looking at it against the sunlight, his expression grew more and more surprised, "Guest, this is the 'Black Nightingale' of the Kingdom of Holm, a black veil that only true nobles can afford to buy, where did you get it from? " He was just as wary and worried as the other tailors, Lucien who was wearing a shabby linen short top certainly couldn't afford to buy the 'Black Nightingale', even many tycoons who had money couldn't buy it, since this was the case, the origin of the veil was very suspicious. Seeing that everyone had the same reaction, Lucien simply lowered his voice: "Don't worry, it definitely won't bring you any trouble." "Is that so?" From the back of the store came out a man in his thirties with a long and thin face, he was the owner of this tailor store, McDowell, previously Banister had not controlled his voice due to his surprise and disturbed him, so when he came out to check, he just happened to hear Lucien's explanation. Didn't just kick me out? Seeing that there was finally a good interaction, Lucien couldn't help but rise in anticipation and slight excitement, "I swear in the name of the Lord, and, look, it's got holes in it already, no noble lady or young lady will still care about it, and as long as you turn it into lace and fluttering ribbons for your dress, no one will ever know what it originally was." McDowell took the black veil from Banister's hand and looked at it carefully, after a moment of silence, he calmly spoke, "So how much do you want for it?" Lucien was excited inside and clenched his fists so tightly that he almost swung, but the experience of the red-eyed rat allowed Lucien to maintain his outward calmness and looked at McDowell and smiled, "I believe that you won't let me down, sir." McDowell stared at Lucien's eyes for a few seconds, seeing that he wasn't in a hurry, he spoke softly, "Forty Copper Fells, it's only this big and has holes in it, not much of it can be used." "One silver nal, a gorgeous gown would definitely be more perfect and more suitable for honorable ladies and ladies if it had the deep and beautiful 'black nightingale' like the night sky as an embellishment." Lucien held back his excitement and bargained on the principle of doubling the price. McDowell shook his head and returned the black veil to Lucien, "Fifty copper fel at the most, and if it doesn't work out, you can leave with it." "That's a pity." Lucien calmly received the black veil on the surface and turned around to walk outside the store, in reality, his heart was filled with nervousness and contradiction, will I be told to stop? Will it increase the price? If I miss this store, I may not be able to find someone who is willing to buy goods of unknown origin! One step, two steps, three steps ...... Lucien saw that he was about to walk out of the tailor's store, behind him McDowell's voice finally sounded, "Eighty copper fel, if there doesn't happen to be a long dress that is very suitable for using black nightingales as lace, I will definitely not offer such a high price. " Well done! Lucien, who had his back to McDowell, excitedly, excitedly, waved his right fist down hard on his chest, then turned around and smiled very flatly, "As you wish." Eighty jingling copper coins filled Lucien's pockets, making them bloated and very cumbersome, but Lucien found them indescribably cute. McDowell called out to Lucien again before he left, "I don't know you, and I don't want to know your name, but in the future, if there is still this kind of precious fabric and you won't get into trouble, you can consider coming to me." "It would be an honor." Lucien was in a good mood, so he smiled and bowed slightly. Coming out of McDowell's tailor store, Lucien realized that the sky was so blue, the sun was so bright, the air was so fresh, and everything was so beautiful. Eighty Copper Fells is not much to say, not much to say, besides bringing Lucien much closer to five Silver Nars, it also proves that Lucien's method of collecting rags to earn money works, and to Lucien, this is the most important thing! ※※※ "Brother Lucien, you're finally back, my brother he's already arrived home, mom asked me to invite you to dinner." Lucien walked not far to his house and saw Irving standing in front of his house, and Irving also spotted Lucien at about the same time, waving his hand happily and shouting. "Aunt Elisa's family's eldest son John? The young man who has become a trainee knight squire?" Lucien recalled something about Irving's brother, then smiled at Irving, "Wait a moment, I'll wipe the sweat." The ninety-two copper felts on his body could not be seen by Avon, God knows if he would blabber about it, after he had gathered enough five silver coins for tuition, then there would not be much of a problem, Lucien was sure that he would definitely not be able to do this forever. Evan replied with a smile, ''Okay, big brother Lucien. By the way, my brother brought back a piece of bison meat that they got from hunting in the wilderness during their knight training some time ago, and Sir Vienne divided it fairly among everyone." "Finally, I can eat beef stew with potatoes, since my brother was picked by Sir Vine to take away to the manor for training, in these two years, I've only eaten it less than twenty times!" His dirty face was overwhelmed with longing and gluttony. Joel was considered a good sort within the street performers, and although his income was good and bad, it was much better than those who simply sold their labor and worked as hard laborers, together with the fact that Elisa had been doing laundry chores for the textile guild, so the family's income was actually close to the commoner's level, only that they had rarely skimped on the food before for the sake of John's workout, and that was why they had been living a very hard life, and had even had to ask for help from the old Evans once in a while . When John was successfully picked by Sir Vine and didn't need the two to worry about it, Alisa began to plan for Evan's future life again, and the result was surprisingly a lot worse food than before. Regarding this, Lucien, who didn't know much about this world yet, didn't find it strange, and instead thought that it was considered good for a poor family to be able to eat beef once a month. After hiding the Copper Fell and casually wiping off his sweat, Lucien followed Irving towards Aunt Elisa's house. Outside Aunt Elisa's house, there was a group of neighbors that Lucien knew very well gathered, and they were discussing enthusiastically: "I heard that Little John has become Sir Vine's official knight squire?" "Alisa said it herself, she wouldn't lie!" "An official Knight Squire at less than nineteen years old, Little John might actually be able to stimulate the power of his bloodline, obtain divine grace, and become a true knight." "Tsk, by then we won't be able to call Little John, we'll have to call Master John, Lord John." "You can't call it nonsense now, a formal knight squire is qualified to become a city guard officer!" "Joel and Elisa are really lucky, they will have a good life in the future!" Lucien looked at Avon suspiciously, Avon nodded heavily with a look of honor. Entering the house, Lucien saw a young blonde-haired, brown-eyed man rise from his chair, John, who had inherited Joel's youthful looks, erect and handsome, though it was his calm, introspective demeanor that gave Lucien the most immediate impression. "I was worried when I heard that something happened to you, but it looks like it's nothing serious, eh, so I'm relieved." John smiled and patted Lucien's shoulder, "Don't be too concerned, this kind of thing is just an accident, think of it as the Lord's test for you." Dressed in a gray knight's uniform, his figure appeared to be very slender, while to Lucien, he had the complete attitude of a mature older brother, even though he was only a year or two older. Lucien smiled and replied, "It wasn't much of a serious illness in the first place, it was Aunt Elisa who was a bit nervous because she was too worried." On the side, Evan chimed in, "That's it, that's it, mom doesn't believe me at all." John laughed and patted Irving on the head, "Quickly go wash your face and get ready for dinner." When Irving left, John smiled gently and gestured for Lucien to sit down, "What's the matter, haven't seen you for a long time and you've become rusty? Lucien, we are good friends who grew up together." "It's true that I'm a bit out of sorts, eh, I didn't expect you to change so much." Lucien casually made an excuse. John nodded seriously, "Knight training can be more than just physical training, there's also behavioral and spiritual training, it's very grueling and very rewarding." After casually chatting a few words about John's training in the Vine Knight Manor, Alisa greeted Lucien for dinner. There was only beef stewed with potatoes and roasted fish on the table, but Lucien, who had eaten black bread for a day, found it so delicious that he almost even ate his tongue, while Joel, because of John's happy event of becoming an official knight squire, was allowed to make an exception by Elisa, and was satisfied with eating beef and drinking ale. Throughout the dinner, Alisa happily chattered and kept talking non-stop, Joel, Lucien, and Evan who were concerned about the food or wine satisfied her by merely responding to her with a few sentences once in a while, while John followed the code of knights and was silent during the meal. "Hiccup~" dinner ended with a long belch from Avon. John shook his head with a smile, "Evan, excessive satiety is bad for the body, don't do that in the future." Then he turned his head to look at Lucien, "Lucien, have you thought about what you want to do in the future?" In response to this question, both Joel and Alisa looked solemnly at Lucien. Lucien answered cautiously, "There are no definite goals yet, but I don't want to be like this anymore." "Good, dissatisfaction with life is the power to move forward." John nodded with satisfaction, "The bakery and brewery in Sir Vine's manor is recently short of manpower, and wants to recruit a few apprentices, but for the next ten years, they will all have to live in the manor, Lucien think about it, and when I come back on Monday, tell me the answer." Having become an official Knight Squire, John had the ability to change the lives of his family and friends, meager but important. And in this world, the same myth of the seven days of creation was passed down, so the service was done every seven days, which was a week. "Okay, John." Lucien had just made the first pot of money in his life and had much longer and better plans for the future, and had no intention at all of going over to sell his body for ten years, but an outright refusal would be too strange for his current state of life, so he was prepared to turn it down after a few days into the next week. John stood up, "Well, since you're okay Lucian, I need to get back to Sir Vine's estate before the gates close." He then hugged Joel, Alyssa, Avon in turn and finally gave Lucien a big hug, "It's a pity you can't read Lucien, otherwise Steward Donny would be just short of a clerk to help him with the country courts, it's a well paid and decent job." "I was thinking of learning to write." Lucian took the opportunity to speak up. John froze for a moment, then smiled, "Our Lucien is very ambitious, eh, I'll see what I can do for you to see if I can find an opportunity, but it may not be very hopeful or it will take a short time, so be prepared." "Thank you, John." Lucien didn't put his hopes on John, he had his own grasp of the road in his own hands. ※※※ For three days in a row, although he didn't find anything as valuable as the "Black Nightingale", Lucien's savings had already amounted to one silver nerd and sixty-four copper fees, so he walked out of the city gates with great vigor. Andre looked at Lucien's back and strangely said to Mag, "Why does this kid go outside the city every morning?" "Andre, what are you talking about?" A kind voice came from behind Andre. Andre's expression straightened up for a moment and he hurriedly turned back, "Good morning, big brother Jackson." Leodos Jackson, the leader of the Aaron Gang, possessed an extremely ordinary face that looked friendly and modest, but if anyone was fooled by his appearance, the end would be very miserable, no matter if it was sinister and cunning, or sharp and ruthless, he was one of the best within the Aaron Gang.
